Privacy Policy

Overview
CineReel is a client for your own Plex Media Server, published by Norstride Inc. It is not a media service we operate: it connects to a Plex server whose address you supply and plays your own library. This policy explains the limited data the app handles and the two cases in which any data touches infrastructure we operate.
What the app stores on your device
- Your Plex server address and access token. The token is a secret for your own server. It's stored in the device Keychain and is never written to ordinary app storage. We don't receive or store it — except in the transient pairing case below.
- Your preferences and playback position— volume, captions, sort order, hidden libraries, and where you left off. These are kept on the device, and playback position is also sent to your own Plex server so it can track “Continue Watching,” exactly as any Plex client does.
Information that passes through our infrastructure
There are only two cases, and both are limited.
- Apple TV pairing(only if you use it). To let you set up an Apple TV without typing, the app can show a QR code that opens a page on cinereel.app where your phone submits your Plex server address and access token. That information passes through a store-and-forward relay we operate solely so the Apple TV can retrieve it. It's held only until the TV collects it or the short pairing window expires, then discarded. It's used for nothing else, is never sold or shared, and if you enter your server details directly on the TV instead, this relay isn't used at all.
- Diagnostic logs (only if you choose to send them). From the in-app Diagnostics screen you may upload a log to help us fix a problem. This is never automatic. Access tokens are redacted before a log line is ever written, the upload is HTTPS-only to cinereel.app, and the log is used only to diagnose the issue you reported.
What we do not do
- No advertising, and no advertising or ad-tracking SDKs.
- No tracking of you across apps or websites.
- No user accounts, and no sign-in to any service we run.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties.
- This site uses privacy-respecting, aggregate page analytics (Vercel Analytics) — no cookies, no cross-site tracking, no personal identifiers.
- Apart from the cases above, the app talks only to the Plex server you configure and to Apple's own services.
Data retention and deletion
Pairing data is transient and discarded as described above. Diagnostic logs you choose to send are retained only as long as needed to investigate the issue. Everything else lives on your device and your own Plex server; deleting the app removes the app's local data, including the stored token.
Children
CineReel is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from children.
